L.E.D.'s 7 Areas of Teaching & Learning

Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: ~ Proverbs 9:1

The "traditional" "subjects" may be a simple given for you. But they were not for me. As I let go of all man's convtrivances in education, I had to see just what biblical education would look like, what we would do if we didn't follow any of man's ways.

I knew God's ways are so much higher than man's, that nothing of God's would come in "sub-standard". And it was proven to me through His Word. His ways cause us to lack no good thing that will be of profit to us in advancing His Kingdom here on earth, nor in our own personal growth.

These are the 7 Pillars of Wisdom I came up with, in my study.

They many times overlap and integrate. Remember we live in God's UNIverse. It's suppose to do that. But as they are laid out, I can also easily see what typical government education would call such studies, enabling me to think biblically while speaking secularly. I can abide within the law of our state by labeling my God given areas of study in ways that are understood and acceptable to them. In fact, I send in a 1 page graphic, diagramming pretty much what I have written below, as my scope and sequence for each year of study.

7 Pillars of Wisdom

Biblical studies - The Foundation of All! - God's Plan revealed to His People; our nourishment for growth - Foundation, Survey, Studies, Doctrine, Principles

Communication - The Tools for studying All! - Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking

This covers: Attentiveness, Narration, Memorization; Phonics, Vocabulary, Comprehension and Interpretation, Study Skills, Handwriting, Spelling, Grammar, Composition; Public Presence, Elocution, Prosody; in English as well as Foreign Languages.

HisStory - The outworking of God's Plan throughout time, Creation to the Present - all pointing to the focal point of Jesus Christ His Son: God Incarnate, Crucified for the sins of His People, and Resurrected Victorious over Sin, Death and Hell.

This covers: the PIPEline of HisStory: People, Ideas, Places, Events - Individuals and Institutions; Literature, the Arts, Primary Source Documents; Geography.

Governments - God's Sovereignty over Man and Design for Man's Relationships with other men - through 4 God ordained Realms: self, family, church, civil.

This covers: character and conduct; family order and roles; church structure and life; citizenship and civil structures.

Stewardship - God's Design for Man's relationship with (governance over) things

This covers: personal stewardship and property (internal and external); personal finances; business economics; world economics.

Creation: Design & Order - God's Design & Order in the Universe - Creation's display of the attributes of God

This covers: Creation's Design - knowlege of life: man, animal, plant; knowledge of earth: surface, sky, space; knowledge of properties (how things work): physics, chemistry, technology. Creation's Order - Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, etc.

Dominion Skills - Man's God given abilities to bring creative beauty and meet practical needs

This covers: Personal Care - health and hygiene, nutrition, labor and rest, safety; Life Skills - home and land; Artisan Skills - music art, dance, drama, design, hand and needlecrafts, carpentry, etc; Service Skills - ministry and vocational.
